EXERCISE CLASS

The children will be spaced out to allow movement, the teacher will lead by counting from 1 to 10 while exercising the various parts of the body.  The teacher will name the body parts in use and encourage the children to complete the exercise sets. Yoga and breathing techniques will be incorporated into the session and at the end a group discussion on the benefits of healthy eating and exercise habits will take place. 

DANCE CLASS

The children will be spaced out to allow movement, the teacher will lead by counting the steps and telling the children to go left, right or turn (depending on the dance) after the initial activity the children will be paired up to dance two songs of a specific type of dance and at the end they will do a conga line.  Materials needed: a CD player (or MP3 player), specific music to teach dancing on Salsa, Merengue, Waltz, Tango, Hip-hop and Rock. Special dances on holidays will be added according to the holiday (Chinese, Mexican, Indian, Brazilian, etc).

ART APPRECIATION CLASS

During art appreciation class the children will work on specific projects of art that relate to the monthly themes, children will be allowed to manipulate all the materials used under the guidance of the Teacher.  For a period of half an hour the children will pay close attention to how things are done, the names of the materials and the techniques used to complete the tasks at hand.  Lectures/demonstrations will take center stage and different art forms will be exposed.  Materials to be used will include art materials, museum brochures, lectures on famous artists, etc.  

 LANGUAGE CLASS (SPANISH)

During language class the children will be fully instructed in Spanish.  The class will take the shape of circle time and all materials, interactions, activities and conversations will be in Spanish.  The basic premise of this class is to teach the same or similar material to the children in Spanish, to include colors, days, months, body parts, books, conversations and songs that change depending on the monthly themes.  Children will be encouraged to speak Spanish not only during language class but throughout the day in order to enrich their use of the language.

WRITING AND READING WORKSHOP

Small groups at a time will do their workshop with the guidance of the teacher.  With a ratio of 5:1, the groups will have 15 minutes to practice their reading or writing while the rest of the children use the toilet, prepare for outdoor activities, play, etc with the supervision and help of the classroom assistant.  The books/vocabulary used during instruction must relate to the monthly themes and enough materials must be ready as to cover the whole 15 minutes of instruction.

MUSIC CLASS

During music class children will learn the names and sounds of instruments while being encouraged to purposely play with them.  Teacher can decide to only play one instrument and have children take turns playing a melody without any music playing in the background, at the end of music class the teacher can incorporate all the instruments and encourage sing, dance and play activity which allows the children creative expression.
